We're learning brand new information about a widespread power outage last month in Riverside.It was caused by an electrical fire UNDERGROUND ... which heavily damaged some JEA equipment. We just received a report that will be presented to the JEA board tomorrow. Channel 4's Jim Piggott joins us live with some of the details in the report .. Jim, does the report say what started the fire? 3 They are still working on the exact cause but early in the morning on april 23 A Back feed on a circuit at one JEA substation downtown. A fuse pulled by a technician on another downtown substation-- combined to create an overvoltage situation miles away in an underground transformer in Riverside. That surge started the fire in the manhole on Riverside ave.. which then caused a major power outage and businesses to shut down for a good part of the day Some of those included the TIMES UNION.. The YMCA EVERBANK and CSX ... and we do have some photos just released of the damage caused by the overload. JEA is trying to find ways to keep this from happening again, ....replace equipment that is over 30 years old, and add warning detectors when surge conditions are building. 3 3 3 all of this will be discussed in much more detail at the board meeting tomorrow at 1 p.m.
