JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A trial date has been set for Biannela Susana, the mother of a 12-year-old murder suspect.

The trial for Susana, who's charged with negligent manslaughter, is set to begin Feb. 27. Her next pretrial hearing is Jan. 18.

Susana's son, Cristian Fernandez, is accused of killing his 2-year-old half brother, David Galarriago.

Detectives say Susana waited hours before taking the toddler to the hospital after Fernandez beat him against a bookcase.

Linda Dayson, of Hurting Families With Children In Crime, spoke Tuesday about how Susana is doing in jail.

"I think she's holding up pretty much OK," Dayson said. "Like I said before, with them having church inside and encouraging one another. Like I said, sometimes she's encouraged me. So her willpower is real strong."

The issue of Susana being released for a funeral for her son wasn't settled at Tuesday's court hearing.

Susana has two other children -- a 6-year-old son and a 4-year old daughter -- both of whom are in foster care. They will likely be put up for adoption because the family apparently doesn't have any relatives who want to take care of the children.
