A jury deliberated for three hours Thursday night before convicting a trucker charged with killing a rival trucker four years ago.
Prosecutors said Colavito Bell shot Christopher Oney in January 2008 because he was losing business to Oney, who was getting more delivery routes from Oldcastle Coastal.
Bell faces life in prison when he's sentenced in March.
Oney, a 41-year-old retired Navy special forces man, was found shot to death in the 9500 block of Normandy Boulevard by a truck driver who was performing a safety check in a parking lot.
According to police, Bell and Oney were both independent truckers who hauled landscaping stone.
Oney was hauling more loads than Bell, who was losing income, and Bell was jealous about it, according to police.
Police said Bell shot Oney because Oney was getting more work than he was.
Police said Bell was a person of interest from early in the investigation. They said a witness saw Bell's car leaving the scene of the killing. Police said they searched his vehicle, but never had enough evidence to arrest him.
Investigators said some additional witnesses eventually came forward, one telling police that Bell came to her home asking if she'd help him leave the country. When she asked him what happened, he told her he had just killed someone, police said.
Police said Bell ended up making a very detailed, verbal confession to a second witness.
Police said they also matched tire prints found at the scene to Bell's vehicle.
Bell was arrested in September 2010.
