Published On: Oct 14 2011 02:15:15 PM EDT Updated On: Mar 16 2010 12:45:55 PM EDTTwo men were arrested and charged with robbery of a Staples on U.S. 1 South in St. Augustine, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.
Police said the two men, identified as Stephen Anthony Crooms III, 20, and Justin Tyron Montgomery, 18, were located on West King Street after the robbery. The two were questioned and then arrested for the crime.
Police said the investigation began at about 8:30 p.m. Monday when deputies responded to a report of a robbery at the Staples store. An employee told police that the older suspect approached him in the rear of the store and handed him a note demanding money and said he had a weapon. Police said the other suspect stood inside the entry area of the store and acted as a lookout.
Police said the suspects were given six bank bags loaded with rolled coins and bills. The two suspects then ran out the back door, causing the alarm to go off, according to police.
The employee told deputies that he recognized the suspect as a former employee.
Crooms and Montgomery were located by police just after midnight. Police said they admitted to the robbery and the location of the stolen money, which was recovered and returned to the store.
Crooms and Montgomery were booked into the St. Johns County Jail where they remain on no bond.
