Published On: Oct 14 2011 03:03:20 PM EDT Updated On: Oct 04 2008 01:53:37 PM EDTDetectives are investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place at a convenience store in St. Augustine Friday night.
The shooting took place at a Lil' Champ convenience store and gas station off U.S. 1 North, where U.S. Marshals Service deputies said they were surveying a 20-year-old suspect wanted on multiple warrants for drug-related charges in St. Johns County and aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer in Nassau County.
According to St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Col. Todd Thompson, the deputies were about to arrest the suspect, Andrew Stanton, and called St. Johns County sheriff's deputies to assist; however, when the marked patrol car arrived, Stanton put his car in reverse and rammed into a patrol car.
Investigators said Stanton also tried to run over U.S. agents who were on foot. At that point, the U.S. marshals fired multiple rounds at the suspect.
Stanton was hit in the face.
He was treated at the scene by county rescue personnel before being flown to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
