UNF prepares for presidential debate
Preparations underway for security and national broadcast
We're just days away from the Republican Presidential Debate here in Jacksonville on the campus of the University of North Florida.
In fact preparations are already underway at the school, both for security and for the national TV broadcast, and it takes a long time to prepare for such an important event.
College voter Jeffery Shaw said, "I think it's going to decide, personally. I think Florida personally will decide who. You still have four candidates right now."
UNF Shaw said he realizes anything can happen in the Republican race for president. The importance of his vote, as he and others on campus prepare for the national attention their school will receive in just a few days.
"With just everything going on with the economy, hopefully it will get them involved because the young vote made a difference in the last election. Hopefully they'll pay attention and will get involved again," said voter Katherine Trask.
UNF Officials confirm security sweeps will begin on campus on Monday evening, in anticipation of presidential hopefuls Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul.
The debate will be held in the fine arts center which seats 1,300 people. School officials are also expecting more than 130 journalists
College voter John Preston said, "I'd appreciate an invitation. That would be nice. All of the parking is blocked off and we're not allowed to park on campus."
Only those people holding tickets will be able to attend the debate in person. Students said regardless, they'll be watching history unfold in their backyard.
Student Joshua Moore said, "Getting all the students politically activated in their environment will bring a change about and bring some good things along."
