3 She lost her Navy sailor husband last October... Now the widow is TALKING about her experiences with a Veterans Affairs hospital... Norma Hammette says she was notified that her ailing husband's doctor's appointments had been cancelled without reason, nearly a half dozen times, right before he passed. President Obama said today ... he's ordered a full investigation into potentially deadly delays at VA facilities nationwide .... including the one in Gainesville where the Hammettes had appointments. 3 Channel 4's Tarik Minor joins us now from the Veterans Memorial wall in Downtown Jacksonville with more on the VA hospitals investigation. 3 3 Norma Hammette knows what it's like to be turned away by the VA hospital . She said it happened nearly a half a dozen times, in the months leading up to her husband Marl's death. 12:43:01"sorry for your inconvenienc, that ' s all they would say, they'd give me another appointment, then I'd get a letter cancelling that one."Hammette says her husband who served in the Navy for more than 20 years kept losing weight, and the family didn't know why. She says she took him to see other specialists, after the VA hospital in Gainesville cancelled their appointments several times. She believes in her heart, VA doctors could have saved his life, and wasted precious time. 12:41:30"very sad, and I know i'm not the only one, who lost their husband for the same thing from neglect from the VA, it's very hurtful. 11:01:14"our veterans deserve to know the facts, and the families deserve the facts."Speaking from the White house today, the president told reporters, that he's investigating allegations of misconduct in the Department of Veterans affairs. The Presidemt vowed to take swift action if it's proven that employees manipulated data, to hide long wait times for appointments at VA hospitals. 11:00:06"when I hear allegations of misconduct, wait times or cooking the books, I will not stand for it as the chief or as an american." President Obama said he wants to know the full scope of the problem, leaving Veterans Affairs secretary Eric Shinseki to find out what happened. But Governor Rick Scott feels differently .
