3 Now .. to the largest Veterans Day parade in all of Florida - and it's still growing - drawing groups even from Georgia to downtown Jacksonville. Channel 4's Kent Justice emceed today's parade along with Melanie Lawson. Kent shows us what local veterans are saying - about our community's passionate, continuing support. 3 20-24 56-1'01 TOO SHORT The sounds are the traditional audible cues - of a marching celebration. The city's parade involving more than 45- hundred participants - and almost half of them students. On the other end of the spectrum - Grand Marshal John Connelly - John Connelly / Parade Grand Marshal He's 88 years young, and a world war two veteran whose plane was shot out of the sky over Germany. Connelly Connelly grew up in Jersey - but retired to Jacksonville. He says it was an honor - to BE honored like this. Connelly Kent standup Admiral Harris Rear Admiral Sinclair Harris commands the Navy's 4th fleet out of Mayport. He says your support here - is off the charts - and literally felt around the world. Across the country - ceremonies and tributes were also held for our nation's Veterans. At the capitol - the President honored the heroes. President Obama placed a wreath at the tomb of the unknowns at Arlington national cemetery. The President says he'll push for wounded veterans to have resources they need... urging Americans to welcome veterans back into the job market when they come home. The president also took a moment to honor the oldest living American world war II veteran..Richard Overton... Who is 107 years old.
