After a string of shootings in one section of Northwest Jacksonville over the past couple days - people there wonder - what can be done? The shootings happened near Moncrief Road and these areas -- Edgewood Avenue, Lorenzo Court, Cavalier Road and Ken Knight Drive. Channel 4's Scott Johnson joins us live along Moncrief Road. He's been talking to people who live there - and the area's city councilwoman. 3 3 3 to be honest...moncrief has had a lot of shootings over the years... you see it on the news a lot. But four in two days is excessive around here people tell me... some are fed up... others just say that's the way it is. 3 0017-2028-3137-42 22:17:32 - ooohh, I guess the devil's hard at work.if you ask around...living along moncrief road isn't always easy.ROBERT WARD 22:18:12 - I stay to myself, what can I do? 22:19:36 - i've learned to live with it. Goes on everyday. 24-7.SHAWN NORRIS 22:16:35 - kind of sickening, need to get it together.but after four shootings along moncrief in two days ... even the most jaded locals say it's too much. INEZ BUIE 22:19:57 - I guess you have no other choice than to accept that it's life. 22:23:16 - 'she says this is the way it is, you can't change it.You just learn to live with it.' well I totally disagree with that, because at one time this was a very nice neighborhood. And I still consider the neighborhood to be nice.Denise Lee is city councilwoman here...and runs the city's new blight committee for struggling neighborhoods. 22:21:49 - I call it human blight because that's exactly what it is. People riding up and down the street shooting at each other. Disrespecting homeowners, robbing, killing. That's a problem.Lee's not pointing fingers at police...instead at local leaders... like neighborhood block captains... local ministers... as well as city's neighborhoods department for not stepping up and leading this community. 22:23:38 - scott the bottom line is you have to reorganize the neighborhood, the city has to step up within its neighborhoods department to make sure these neighborhoods organized throughout the community. 3 Lee added that historically the moncrief area has been a great neighborhood ... but a lot of longtime residents have left... and she says with it some of the neighborhood's stability. Scott, that area has struggled to bring in new businesses in recent years... did you talk to councilwoman Lee about that?
