A wave of violence has one neighborhood living in fear. Multiple violent crimes have some residents saying...ENOUGH. 3 A neighborhood crime alert to tell you about tonight in Northwest Jacksonville .. Within a week there has been a string of violent crimes - Including a body being found in connection with a homicide Thursday night. This happened on West 7th street....and it followed another shooting on nearby Whitmer street. Then - on West street - one home riddled with bullets - and Sunday night, someone shot at that same home. Channel 4's Scott Johnson spoke to residents about this wave of violence - and talked to our crime analyst to find out what they can do about it. 3 00-0526-291:09-1:15 the frustration is mounting in this small section of northwest jacksonville where crime after crime has plagued the area in the past week.... 5:36:41 - terrible around here. Too many children around and it seems to not be stopping. It's summertime and gets hot and people start actin crazy. last wednesday there was a shooting on whitmer street.. then the next day nearby on nearby 7th street there was a body found in a homicide investigation ... and that same night a home was shot up on nearby 4th street. Then sunday night more violence at the same home on 4th street someone else was shot.5:41:24 - It's getting bad. 'has it always been like this?' no, it's getting worse and worse and I don't know what can be doen to stop it. while residents are frustrated channel 4 crime analyst ken jefferson says this situation is not hopeless.KEN JEFFERSON 5:43:42 - what can be done is community can empower themselves.What can be done is they need help of police. They've got to get assistance from police and police can increase their patrols. And put more concentration in that area. But the residents are the ones integral because if they just start reporting suspicious activity. When I was out there I found multiple people who shied away from talking a bout this... some hid their faces... but ken says if this neighborhood wants change they can't hide from the crime problem.5:44:45 - you can't shy away from being bold and talking. I understand you don't want to be labeled.But it's your community. If you don't do anything about it, no one else will.
