CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. -

Investigators in Camden County said they have found the weapon they believe was used to kill a soldier stationed at Fort Stewart in November.

Deputies said a grid search Saturday led them to the weapon sought in the death of James Willis III, whose body was found the morning of Nov. 15 by two men about 20 feet off the road on the north side of Union Carbide Road, about nine miles east of Interstate 95.

Jeffrey Eicher, 23, of Ft. Stewart, Aaron Paxton, 36, of St. Marys, and Timothy Pennington, 39, of Kingsland were arrested the next day and charged with murder.

April Walker, 35, of St. Marys, was arrested on Jan. 11 and charged with one count of conspiracy to commit the offense of trafficking marijuana. Investigators believe Walker was involved in other crimes with Eicher, Paxton and Pennington but played no role in the killing.

The weapon, a .38 revolver, was found adjacent to the bridge over Deep Creek, west of where Willis' body was found. Deputies said it is consistent with the single gunshot wound to the head that killed Willis.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab is examining the pistol to verify that it is the weapon used to Willis.

The search was conducted by Camden County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue, Glynn County Search and Rescue, the Glynn County Emergency Management Agency and George Baker of Blackwater Recovery.
