Neighbors heard gunfire at the Paradise Island apartment complex near the Avenues Mall about 5:30 a.m. When police arrived, they found a 16-year-old dead.

Investigators said that boy and three others tried to rob a man at gunpoint in the parking lot, but he pulled his own gun and began firing.
