PALATKA, Fla. -

The first floor of the Putnam County Courthouse was evacuated Thursday when white powder was found in an envelope that arrived in the mail.

The Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to the courthouse about 12:50 p.m. The ground floor of the building was cleared and no one was allowed to enter.

A Putnam County Fire Department's Hazmat team's field testing showed the substance did not appear to contain an active biological agent. The powder was collected and sent to the Department of Health in Jacksonville for analysis.

No one was injured, but county officials decided to close the building for the rest of the day while the investigation continued.

Deputies would not say who the letter was address to or release any other information about the envelope.
