Wildlife officials free birds stuck in beer cans

Wildlife officials and park guests helped free two birds with beer cans stuck around their necks.

On Monday, guests at the Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge found a pelican and herring gull with Busch Light beer cans on their necks like collars.

The guests used Swiss Army knifes to cut the ends of the beer cans. Then they called the Florida Keys Wildlife Rescue.

Authorities said that the gull's head appeared to be force through the can, but  the one around the Pelican's neck had been modified to fit. They said the gull was gasping for breath with they found it.

Both birds are now recovering in a rescue center.

Authorities say that it probably took two people to pull of the act. 

The Wildlife Rescue director called the incident 'sickening.'
