A 48-year-old woman was killed while trying to cross US 41 on Sunday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Pamela LaLonde was on the eastside shoulder of US 41, about one mile north of SW 25th Place, about to cross the highway. But according to FHP, she hesitated when she saw a car heading north.
The driver of that 1986 GMC, William Head, steered to the right and headed into the east shoulder, hitting LaLonde.
FHP said Head tried to brake and miss LaLonde, but struck her with the front, right side of the vehicle.
LaLonde was taken to Tri County Hospital in Williston, where she later died.
FHP is investigating.
