Woman Creates Site To Save Mom's Home
66-Year-Old Mother Hopes Not To Lose Home To Foreclosure
Published On: Oct 31 2011 05:47:40 PM EDT Updated On: Nov 20 2009 10:28:33 AM ESTPam Settle never thought she'd be sitting in her living room talking about her finances on the news, but she said desperate times call for desperate measures, or in this case, creative ones.
Settle's daughter Angela Mitchell created the Web site www.savemymom'shouse.com. That's exactly what she's trying to do for her 66-year-old mother, hoping she won't lose her home to foreclosure.
"What she did was amazing, and we've gotten so much response from it," Settle said. "I want to try everything I can think of. Yes, it's stupid and crazy. But why not?"
Two years ago, Settle's husband died. She managed to continue to pay their mortgage with the money he left her, but things were tight.
"By losing him, as much as I lost my heart, I lost $2,000 a month income," Settle said.

Now, things are beyond tight. Settle is 66, retired and desperate to find work because she's fallen behind on her house payment. It's just days away from going into foreclosure.
"I've worked my entire life since I was 14," Settle said. "I'm still looking for work now."
Mitchell moved in to help her mom with the bills, but time is running out.
They need about $10,000 to save the house, and Mitchell said the Web site she created is her desperate and admittedly "dorky" way of trying to help.
"I thought, 'Why not? It's crazy but I'll try it," Mitchell said.
On the Web site, you can buy a shirt that says, "I helped save a mom's house and all I got was this lousy T-shirt." Profits go directly to Settle, or you can opt to just donate money. Either way, the women said they're extremely grateful.
"Times are tough for everyone, so we don't expect more than anyone can do," Mitchell said.
