ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. -

A woman died in the hospital shortly after being pulled unresponsive from the surf at Ocean Trace in St Augustine Beach on Tuesday afternoon, according to St. Johns County Fire Rescue.

The woman, 74-year-old Lora Hagen, was reported missing just after 2 p.m. and was found a short time later.

She was taken to Flagler Hospital where she died. Police said a strong rip current pulled the woman underwater while she was swimming with her granddaughter.

Investigators said Hagen had grown tired and was floating on her back resting so she could swim back to shore.

Hagen was pulled from the water about 15 minutes after she disappeared in the surf, but rescuers were unable to resuscitate her.

Investigators have ruled Hagen's death an accidental drowning.
