U.S. News and World Report released a list of the best overall diets.

At the top, the DASH diet developed by the National Institutes of Health.

The key component of it is limiting sodium intake and eating fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

One thing that set the DASH diet apart is that it doesn't cut out or extremely restrict certain foods.

The panel weighing the different diets looked for plans that were easy to follow, nutritious and safe.

But the diets also needed to help you lose weight-- and fight diabetes and heart disease.

This is the third year in a row U.S. News and World Report put the DASH Diet Eating Plan at the top.
