AAA predicts Florida gas prices will drop below $2

Gasoline -- Gas prices are going down this fall after a sky-high summer but are still nearly $1 more per gallon than this time last year.

Over a dozen states have seen gasoline below $2, and Florida could be one of them in February.

The national average could fall below $2 this week.  According to AAA, the statewide average in Florida is $2.08.  In Jacksonville, it's $2.02.

AAA says U.S. motorists are now paying the lowest average gas prices since March 2009.

Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said the prices will hit bottom soon without a renewed plunge in crude oil prices.

According to a Lundberg survey, prices are over $1.20 lower than one year ago. That's based on information obtained by about 2,500 gas stations.
