Jessica Merlino sentenced to 10 years for grand theft

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An accountant was sentenced to 10 years in prison for one count of grand theft for stealing from her former employer.

Jessica Tahirih Merlino, 38, pleaded guilty to the grand theft charges in October.

Merlino was employed as an accountant with Stellar Recovery, Inc,. from July 2011 to December 2014. During that time, Merlino transferred money from the company's account to her personal bank account, totaling more than $195,937.

After leaving the company in 2014, Merlino continued to steal the company's money through her former co-worker, Misty Walker. Walker was terminated in March 2015. Overall, more than $366,177 was transferred from the company's account into Merlino's personal account.

In addition to the prison sentence, Merlino has been ordered to pay approximately $362,558 in restitution to her former employer.
