JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – More than 2,300 runners came together Saturday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville's Bragan Field for the 7th annual run, benefiting Wolfson Children's Hospital.
Saturday's event included a 55k Ultra Marathon and relay, 30k individual run, 1-mile fun run, entertainment, and more.
The leading runners were:
Top 3 male finishers in 55-km Ultra Marathon:
Dan MacGregor, 45, of Jacksonville; Gregory Umberger, 59, of Jacksonville; and Carter East, 28, of Jacksonville
Top 3 female finishers in 55-km Ultra Marathon (individual run):
Jennifer Joy, 46, of Jacksonville Beach; Kristen Eckert, 36, of Ponte Vedra Beach; and Dawn Hancock, 41, of Jacksonville
Top 3 male finishers in 30-km Individual Run:
Connor Vaughn, 19, of Jacksonville; Jeff Roberts, 40, of Saint Simons Island, Ga.; and David Bonnette, 43, of Orange Park
Top 3 female finishers in 30-km Individual Run:
Tina Dyal, 53, of Jacksonville; Beth Dearment, 36, of Jacksonville Beach; and Lisa Adams, 41, of Fleming Island
The run was founded in 2010 by Paul Wilson of Ponte Vedra Beach. His goal was to raise $5,000 for Wolfson Children's Hospital with a 55 mile run. Wilson's newborn son received life-saving surgery from the hospital that same year. The run has raised over $2 million, in the six years since.
The event is now considered a major fundraiser for the hospital, which is the northeast Florida's not-for-profit pediatric referral center, serving tens of thousands of children each year.
Last year, more than 1,700 people participated in the runs, raising more than $320,000.
This year's proceeds will go toward a technology support endowment and life-saving equipment.
