Another hole opens on I-95 near Acosta and Main Street Bridges

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Travelers along Interstate 95 before the Acosta and Main Street Bridge split off ran into delays Thursday night when a hole opened up in the interstate.

The hole, which was 12 inches by 15 inches wide, opened up in the northbound center lane around 5 p.m., but construction crews were delayed in fixing the whole due to severe weather that swept through the area.

Two lanes were closed to help crews repair the road, and the Florida Department of Transportation said they hoped to have them back open Friday morning.

According to Ron Tittle with FDOT, the road is still safe but is expected to be replaced in the next couple of years.

"The bridge structure is still sound but is being replaced by the current construction project scheduled for completion around the end of 2016 or early 2017," Tittle said.
