Firefighters were at the scene within minutes and had the fire under control soon after.

Clark told News4Jax that firefighters agreed with her suspicion that the fire had started as a result from unattended food left on the stove.

Prior to the arrival of the firefighters, neighbors rushed to get everyone out safely, including two cats and two kittens.

“Apparently, it was a stove fire. We had a couple of neighbors that also assisted getting them out before the fire department got here,” Clark said. “There’s some damage, but we’re just more thankful that our residents did get out safe and sound. So, other than that, we’re thankful.”

Clark said the people who live in the apartments that were affected by the fire can’t stay there, but the management is making sure they have a place to stay tonight.
