JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man who was shot by police after an armed burglary was sentenced Thursday to 25 years in prison, state attorneys said.

On Christmas Eve morning in 2014, Hollis set off the alarm at Gate Liquors on Lem Turner Road.

While burglarizing the store, Hollis armed himself with two rifles that he found inside the business, state attorneys said.

When police arrived, Hollis, wearing a mask and gloves, attempted to flee the area. Authorities said police repeatedly ordered Hollis to the ground, but he refused.

Armed with two rifles, Hollis then turned around to face police. State attorneys said he was shot in the leg by an officer from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The State Attorney's Office said it investigated the shooting and found that the officer was justified in his use of force.

Hollis was sentenced to 25 years in prison with a 10-year minimum mandatory sentence on the armed burglary count; 15 years with a three-year minimum mandatory on the firearm charge; and 162 days in the Duval County Jail on the drug charge. State attorneys said the sentences will run concurrently.

Hollis also pleaded guilty and was sentenced Thursday in an unrelated case. State attorneys said Hollis received 15 years on a charge of aggravated battery of a pregnant person.

Hollis' criminal history includes convictions for carrying a concealed firearm and trafficking in morphine, according to state attorneys.
