Arrest made in gas station hit-and-run

MIDDLEBURG, Fla. – A man has been arrested in connection to a hit-and-run that left Patricia Hutchinson, 65, in critical condition.

Investigators say Vincent Cangiamilla, 47, was arrested at his home Saturday evening at about 4:30 p.m. He is in the Clay County jail, charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the incident happened Thursday night at a Kangaroo gas station on Blanding Boulevard. Investigators said Hutchinson was putting gas in her truck when a car backed over her.

Hutchinson is in the intensive care unit at UF Health Jacksonville. Her family has been at her bedside since the incident.

Earlier Saturday, her son, Thomas Hutchinson, was asking for help finding any leads. A few hours later, News4JAX called him back to let him know an arrest was made.

"My mom is going to get justice now," said Thomas Hutchinson. "And I trust the courts here in Clay County.

Patricia Hutchinson's son said his mother's condition continues to improve.

"I'm just so glad my mom is going to make it and everything is turning out the way it is," said Thomas Hutchinson. "Easter is tomorrow. It's still going to be a hard day, but we will celebrate it in the hospital. We won't hunt eggs tomorrow, but it's going to be okay."

News4JAX has looked into Cangiamilla's background. It includes burglary arrests as well as driving arrests including reckless driving, and driving under the influence.
