Attorney, civic leader Charlie Towers dies

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Longtime attorney and civic leader Charlie Towers has died. He was 91.

Towers was born in Jacksonville in 1923 and served in the Navy during World War II. After the war he graduated from Princeton and then Stetson University Law School.

Towers joined his father's law firm, now known as Rogers Towers, and devoted more than 65 years of his life to practicing law.

Towers was also involved in the JaxChamber, the Rotary, the Salvation Army and United Way among other community and civic groups. He was an elder at First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville.

A memorial service will be held at the church at 11 a.m. May 9.
