Baker County sheriff: Mother, child beaten in home

Deputies: Men broke into home, beat mother and child

MACCLENNY, Fla. – A mother and her small child are out of the hospital after they were assaulted in their home early Saturday morning, according to the Baker County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Joey Dobson told News4Jax that two men cut the telephone lines to the house, then broke into the home about 2 a.m., beat up the mother and her child and stole items from the home.

"Two male suspects busted in the front door which was locked and busted in the bedroom and began to beat the victim and her 7-year-old son," said Dobson.

Dobson said the child was hit in the head numerous times with a flash light.

Both the mother and her child were taken to the hospital but have since been released, deputies said.

Deputies said they have three suspects in custody for home invasion robbery and aggravated battery charges. Those arrested have been identified as Josh Herring and Ralph Creekmore Jr.

Herring's wife, Dana, was also arrested and charged with conspiracy in helping plan the attack.

The two men were being held on $70,000 bond. The woman on $60,000.

Authorities said the victim was selling prescription medication.

"This is a drug deal gone bad. The suspects knew the victim had just gotten her prescription medication and one subject had already been there buying drugs from the victim," said Dobson.
