The BBB issued a scam alert Monday night for local businesses, after someone tried to trick scrap metal businesses out of more than $200,000.
Scrap Aluminum Processors Two, Inc. contacted the Jacksonville office of the Better Business Bureau after receiving a call from a debt collector.
The caller told the businesses that they were contracted through email by a Hong Kong Exporter, to collect $200,000 from one person who also owned Scrap Aluminum that same amount.
When a sketchy invoice arrived containing mixed contact information that didn't add up, the BBB investigated and said it found the scam artists was using the debt collector to make the deal seem real.
The BBB is now warning all scrap metal businesses, not to provide their banking information to anyone, until they can verify a debt claim.
