Beauty Queen Indicted in Boyfriend's Killing

Police Say Jealousy Girlfriend Attacked Victim

SAVANNAH, Ga. - A grand jury has indicted the reigning Miss Savannah on felony charges in the shooting death of her boyfriend.

The Chatham County grand jury's indictment, which was handed down Wednesday, charges Sharron Nicole Redmond with murder, using a firearm during the commission of a felony and aggravated assault.

Authorities say Redmond, 23, killed her boyfriend, Kevin Shorter, after discovering he was engaged to another woman. If convicted, she would face a life sentence.

Redmond assumed the Miss Savannah title in August when Andrea Bailey -- who was originally crowned Miss Savannah -- won the title of Miss Georgia and went on to compete in the Miss America competition. Redmond also was pursuing a singing career.

This year's Miss Savannah competition was called off because of the publicity surrounding the case.
