Bicyclist killed in crosswalk on U.S. Highway 301

BRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. – A 53-year-old man was killed Wednesday while riding his bike.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Matthew Ellis, 56, was driving north on U.S. Highway 301 and as he approached the intersection at Edwards Road he struck the victim, who was in the crosswalk, on his right side.

The victim, who has not been identified, was thrown off his bike and landed on the road on his stomach with his bike next to him.

The victim died from his injuries.

FHP said charges are pending against Ellis.
