Bicyclist killed in Levy County

WILLISTON, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol says a bicyclist was hit and killed Saturday morning in Levy County.

FHP says the bicyclist, Oscar Jeronimo, 23, was riding in the southbound lane of U.S. Route 41 6 miles south of State road 121 when a Jeep Grand Cherokee being driven by Robert Kinsey, 53, failed to  see the bicyclist in the center lane.

Police say Jeronimo was not wearing a helmet.

FHP says the driver of the Jeep was traveling between 50 and 55 miles per hour at the time of the accident.

Another driver in a Hyundai Elantra steered onto the shoulder after seeing the initial accident. Another driver in a Volkswagen Beetle tried to steer away from the initial accident but hit the back of Kinsey's Jeep.

No other injuries were reported in this accident.
