Bill could broaden options for charter students

A House Republican on Tuesday filed a proposal that could help clear the way for charter-school students to take part in sports and other extracurricular activities at private schools.

Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Naples, filed the bill (HB 119) for consideration during the 2017 session, which starts in March.

Current law allows charter-school students to take part in interscholastic extracurricular activities at public schools that they could otherwise attend.

Donalds' bill would broaden that to allow the students to participate in such activities at private schools.
