Bill would protect privacy from drones

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – While companies are trying to take advantage of drone technology, Florida lawmakers want to make sure there are privacy protections in place for citizens.

House bill 649 would make it illegal for a person to use a drone to record private property without the other person's consent.

"I think the proliferation of technology has now made it economically viable for people to get these devices and use them to violate the privacy of other people without their consent," Rep. Larry Metz, R-Eustis, said. "So we're trying to catch up with the technology, have the law catch up with technology."

The bill doesn't apply to public places or places visible in the public eye.
