Body of missing boater found after accident

John L. Engleman's body found Saturday night

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The body of the missing boater who crashed into a buoy was found Saturday night, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials.

John L. Engleman, 61, the operator of the boat involved in the accident, was recovered by Jacksonville Sheriff Office divers at about 11:30 p.m.

Gilbert Salinas Jr., 52, was the passenger and had been rescued by another boater Saturday. Both men are from Jacksonville.

According to FWC investigators, the two men struck a buoy at the entrance to the Trout River. Both men were ejected into the water.

The accident happened about 10 a.m. Saturday. The search for Engleman began and Jacksonville Fire Rescue, JSO and U.S. Coast Guard personnel participated in the search.

The boat was a 2013 19-foot Sundance center console.

The FWC is continuing the investigation.
