Body found at Monument Road Animal Hospital

Employee arriving for work discovers body in parking lot

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A body found in the parking lot of the Monument Road Animal Hospital early Thursday morning may be the second victim from a home invasion shooting late Wednesday night.

A worker told Channel 4 the body was discovered just after 7 a.m. when the first employee arrived for work.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Homicide Sgt. Sean Coarsey said it's possible the body is one of the suspects from the home invasion about 11 p.m. on Oak Water Drive in the Holly Oaks area, just east of Regency. Police say one suspect shot by the homeowner died at the scene and two others got away.

Coarsey said it appeared the body at the animal hospital was dumped there.  No nearby businesses have surveillance cameras showing the area, but detectives were canvasing the area looking for witnesses.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area overnight is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.

The animal hospital remained open during the investigation and was meeting pet owners outside the crime scene to take in animals.
