Brown, Crenshaw aim to get funding for river dredging

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – U.S. Reps. Corrine Brown and Ander Crenshaw have spearheaded a letter to congressional leaders aimed at getting funding for a project that would help the Jacksonville Port Authority grow.

They're pushing for money for the deepening of the St. Johns River. That would let bigger cargo ships visit the port.

Crenshaw and Brown, along with other representatives, want funding for this project and others to be part of the Water Resources Development Act.

They want the final version of the bill to authorize funding for projects that are still waiting for a final report from the Army Corps of Engineers.

Crenshaw and Brown say without the deepening of the river, JaxPort will fall behind other ports on the East Coast.
