Bundles of cocaine washing ashore

ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. – The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office says at least four bundled packages of cocaine have washed ashore Friday from Ponte Vedra Beach south to Crescent Beach.

The first package was found by a member of a company to rescues sea turtles found what she described as a trash-like bag on Crescent Beach early Friday. When she opened it, she saw a bunch of little bags inside.  She brought it to the Crescent Beach substation of the Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office confirmed the bags contained cocaine.

St. Johns County beaches, which were closed anyway due to nor'easter conditions, were being kept closed as deputies collecting the bundles and taking them to an undisclosed location.

No debris has been spotted, so it wasn't certain if a vessel hauling the drugs off the coast had capsized.

The Sheriff's Office says anyone who sees anything suspicious along the beaches should not touch it, but call 904-824-8304 to report it.
