Calls released in teacher sex assault case

Christopher Bacca plead guilty to one count of sexual battery on a minor

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In March, 28-year-old Christopher Bacca plead guilty to charges of sexual battery and lewd and lascivious conduct with a minor.

Bacca, a former teacher of the year at Windy Hill Elementary School, admitted to sexually abusing one of three boys while they were in school programs under his supervision and he's now serving a 40-year prison term at Gulf Correctional Institution.

Police just released an hour long phone call between a Baker County mother and Bacca was just released where Bacca admits to the mother, and investigators who were eavesdropping on the line, that he did in fact abuse the boy.

The conversation lasted for an hour and for most of the conversation Bacca denies ever being inappropriate with the boy in question but eventually he breaks, telling the mother he showered with the boy, touched each other's privates and even tried to perform oral sex on the boy.

Bacca was sentenced in March and News4Jax has just learned that the Duval County School District settled a lawsuit awarding the victim's family $300,000.

The family of the victim is also suing the church and organization that was part of the school's Bible-based program.

Tonight, many parents in Duval County are asking why the school district takes as long as it does to complete investigations of teachers. The questions are being raised following the demotion of Windy Hill's Elementary School Principal and an arrest of a former teacher.

The lawsuit states that the church "Should have known Bacca's propensity to commit inappropriate sexual acts with minors."

The family's attorney politely declined a statement but said he does plan on filing two more lawsuits on behalf of two other possible victims.
