Car hits highway construction trailer; 4 hurt

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Police say four people were injured Tuesday morning when a car struck a construction crew on U.S. 441 in Gainesville.

According to authorities, a Prius heading south struck a construction trailer parked along the road's shoulder. The crew had been picking up road signs from a resurfacing project that was finished last week.

The Gainesville Sun reported that no one suffered life-threatening injuries but the three construction workers and the driver of the car were all taken to the hospital.

Police spokesman Ben Tobias says the crash highlights the importance of the state's "move over" law. There were also signs warning motorists that traffic fines are doubled when construction workers are present.
