Overturned car blocks I-95 at Race Track Road

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – An 83-year-old woman is in critical condition after her car overturned in a crash in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Racetrack Road on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Dorothy Quigley was driving her Honda Accord north just before 3 p.m. when it left the right-hand lane and struck a guard rail, reentered the travel lanes, where it was struck by a tractor-trailer in the center lane. The impact caused the car to overturn.

Quigley, of Hastings, was transported to UF Health Jacksonville with critical injuries. The driver of the big rig was not hurt.

One lane of three northbound lanes reopened just after 3:30 p.m. when the overturned car was pushed to the side of the highway. About 15 minutes later, all lanes were clear.

Northbound traffic was at at standstill south to south of State Road 16 for the better part of an hour.
