Career and trades fair

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Mayor's young advisory council organized a college career, and trade fair at City Hall. The fair provided information and contacts for youths pursuing college, entry-level employment, career and military opportunities.

"If I didn't want college the first year after High School I could come here and pick up a trade or join the military or find a job that doesn't require a college degree. Instead I could find that and start my career. I would be thrilled to know there are other options than just college," said Tatum Thompson, president of the mayor's youth leaders advisory council.

The students got the message out about today's events by appearing on The Morning Show on News4Jax and social media.

"We used social media to our advantage we printed flyers and the mayor himself tweeted for us," Thompson said.

The youth leaders advisory council meets regularly with city officials to discuss issues that the youth are dealing with in Jacksonville.
