Carjacking victim shares look at car involved in crime spree

Police believe car used in 3 gas station robberies that left 1 dead

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The carjacking victim whose car police believe was used in a crime spree that left a 24-year-old gas station clerk dead got his car back from police this week.

He said he doesn't want it anymore.

"Just thinking what went on inside of it, it just, you know, it brings back the memory of that," said Toye Whitaker.

Whitaker said his family, including his 5-year-old son, was in the 2002 silver Avalon (pictured below) with him at a restaurant drive-thru Saturday night when a man carjacked them. Police said the stolen vehicle was used the next day in three gas station robberies.

In one of those robberies, 24-year-old Thomas McIntee was shot and killed inside a Northside Gate gas station. Police released surveillance images of the robbers on Thursday.

They also released a sketch of the carjacker (pictured below) who terrorized Whitaker and his family. Police said he is the key to the investigation, and they hope someone will identify him.

"Looking at him, his face, this is someone who just doesn't care about life," Whitaker said. "They just don't have nothing to lose."

Whitaker's vehicle still had evidence markers and dust residue from the police investigation on it Thursday.

Whitaker said the car reminds him of the man who lost his life, and he no longer wants it.

"I pray that God wraps his arms around that family," Whitaker said. "I pray that the whole community is praying that this guy be brought to justice. Like I said, I don't want to see anyone else go through this."

Police are asking anyone who may have seen Whitaker's car late Saturday night and into Sunday morning, to please call them. They believe retracing the car's path could provide new leads.
