3 children, cat rescued in Mandarin fire

Home located on Pathwood Way

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department was on the scene of a home fire near Losco Road and Old St. Augustine Road Friday night.

According to JFRD, a father and his three small children were in their townhome on Pathwood Way in Mandarin when a fire started in the kitchen and laundry area of the home around 7 p.m.

Witnesses said that a neighbor rushed over to help pull the three kids from the home as the fire began to spread to the townhome next door where a woman and her two cats lived.

As firefighters battled the blaze, one of the neighbor's cats was rescued and given oxygen, but the other cat went missing, and a dog, believed to be owned by the family, died in the fire.

The father was taken to the hospital, and the extent of his injuries are unknown, but JFRD did say that he would be OK.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating the exact cause of the fire.
