JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The city of Jacksonville has filed a foreclosure lawsuit against the owners of the historic Bostwick Building downtown.
The building, which sits near the foot of the Main Street Bridge, was one of the first buildings to go up after the 1901 fire.

On Tuesday night, the City Council overwhelmingly voted to designate it as a historic landmark. As a result, the building's owners will not have permission to demolish it.
The city's Code Enforcement department has been fining the owners because the building is in disrepair.
Because of those fines, which now total $60,000, the city has a lien on the property.
On Wednesday afternoon, the city filed a foreclosure suit against the building's owners, foreclosing on that lien.
