City to host leadership week for at-risk youth

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Mayor Lenny Curry, Sheriff Mike Williams and Bishop John Guns announced an initiative Wednesday for at-risk young men called One City, One Jacksonville Leadership Week.

The three leaders gathered at the Police Athletic League to provide details of the one-week academy designed to prepare 100 young men from Jacksonville's urban core for a successful school year, both in and out of the classroom.

Williams said Leadership Week is a key piece of the city's crime-fighting efforts.

"We've talked a lot over the past few years about prevention, intervention and enforcement. This is what this is. This is how you reach out to men and women and keep them from getting involved in activities that lead them to committing crime in our community," Williams said.
