CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -

A teacher recruitment fair is being held Saturday morning for people looking for a teaching job.

The Clay County School District is hosting the fair at Fleming Island High School.
Clay County Schools Superintendent Charles Van Zant said there could be more than 100 openings.

"What we do here in Clay County Schools is educate children. To do that well, we have to have the very best and brightest teachers so we focus on that very intentionally," said Van Zant.

Looking for the best of the best, Van Zant hopes the cream of the crop will apply for teaching positions in Clay County for the next school year.

"We have a pretty high attrition rate in Clay County. We're a large military community so a lot of times teachers might be married to a service member and transfer out. Teachers tend to teach in Clay County until they retire. Once they get into Clay County they stay," said Van Zant.

Van Zant says depending on the year, 150 to 300 teachers leave Clay County schools.

"We're proud to host; probably 400 to 700 people will be coming to look for jobs, so we will have all 41 principals there to look at their resumes, visit with them, share their expectations and get a good feel for what we might be bringing in the school district for teachers next year," said Van Zant.

Whether you're graduating from college this year, a first year teacher or people who want to try out teaching as a second career, all properly certified or certification-eligible applicants are welcome.

"Drop in, drop out there's not a formal part or presentation so to speak. The schools will be represented; there will be representatives from each school and people can walk through the job fair at their own pace," said Van Zant.

The recruitment fair is Saturday, May 11th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Fleming Island High School. Registration is not required.
