Columbia County deputies arrest man after chase

LAKE CITY, Fla. – Columbia County deputies arrested a man who they said led them on a chase and crashed his van into a fence.

Deputies were looking for a vehicle in connection with a possible abduction. Shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday, they spotted the vehicle at a convenience store off west U.S. 90 and attempted to stop it.

The driver took off, leading deputies on a short pursuit. The driver didn't make a turn at Lake City Avenue and Wilks Lane and crashed into a fence.

Deputies said Lawrence Woods, Sr., 47, was the driver and he got out of the van and ran off.

Deputies arrested him a short distance away. They said Woods' passenger was the victim of false imprisonment but was not injured.

Woods was arrested on an outstanding warrant for an unrelated charge, fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving and false imprisonment.

He was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility on no bond.
