Commanding officer of USS Shamal relieved of duties

Lt. Cmdr. Alisha Hamilton had assumed command of USS Shamal in January

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A commanding officer of USS Shamal, which is based at Naval Station Mayport, was relieved of her duties Tuesday, authorities said.

Lt. Cmdr. Alisha E. Hamilton was relieved of her duties by Capt. Glenn Kuffel due to loss of confidence in her ability to command following the preliminary findings of an investigation into alleged inappropriate behavior on the part of Hamilton, according to naval officials.

Hamilton assumed command of USS Shamal in January and has temporarily been reassigned to commander of Navy Region Southeast, pending final results of the investigation.

Officials said Lt. Cmdr. David Catterall, commanding officer of USS Tornado, temporarily assumed command.
