A local couple who has been planning their wedding in downtown St. Augustine got some upsetting news Friday night.
Savanna Demott and Brendan Barton’s wedding is colliding with the Mumford and Sons concert in St. Augustine. During their wedding rehearsal Thursday night they were told that parking for their wedding on Friday night could be impossible.
As the couple rehearsed for their wedding Thursday night at the White Room in Downtown St. Augustine, they knew that parking for their 120 guests would be tough, but they didn’t realize how tough it would be with Mumford and Sons fans swarming St. Augustine.
“It’s been so frustrating. I started planning my wedding in September 2012. I found out about this concert in February and as soon as I found out about the concert every hotel room was booked within days,” said Demott.
The couple said police told them that they will try and reserve some parking for their guests, but they don’t have much hope in that plan.
“Nothing’s guaranteed except that I’m marrying her and that’s it. That’s what’s important,” said the soon to be groom.
The City of St. Augustine told Channel 4 that they put out ample warning about road closures and that anytime there’s a downtown event, there will be unhappy parties. The city said they try to do their best to warn everyone.
“Parking is horrible already, so now with 30,000 people down here, it's going to be even worse. And then we had a designated parking lot, and now we were told tonight the street might be closed off,” said Demott.
