A Bradford County correctional deputy was arrested Thursday on charges of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia at her home.
Deputies said Caron Hayes, 35, admitted to the possession and use of marijuana. She was booked into the Bradford County jail but will be transferred to another jail facility for precautionary measures.
Hayes was first hired in 1999, resigned in 2006 and rehired full-time in 2007.
She has now been fired.
"As difficult as it is to arrest and fire one of our own, we will not tolerate nor do we condone anyone in this organization breaking the law," Sheriff Gordon Smith said. "We hold ourselves to a higher standard and faced this investigation head-on. I don't care who the investigation involves, we will pursue these cases in our continued effort to combat illegal drugs."
